From Clashes to Creativity

Edwards’ background in music started with battles with his friends in primary school. By testing each other in lyrical challenges and childhood versions of clashes, he started to shine amongst his friends as a good performer. They would compete using popular reggae and dancehall songs. However, over time, he began to develop his own style and voice.

After receiving great feedback from his own renditions of songs, Mr. Edwards started to think more about possibly being an artiste. By the time Mr. Edwards reached the age of thirteen (13), he started to officially write his own music. He went to Pembroke Hall High School and as his schooling progressed, classmates started to look up to him as someone who could become a dancehall artiste. At the time he went by the name “Big Don Dilliss” or “Dilliss” for short.

At Pembroke Hall High School, he thoroughly enjoyed the subjects of Mathematics and those related to business. He spent a few years pursuing a Media and Communications Degree at the International University of the Caribbean (IUC). Even though not finalized, he was able to transfer his creative skills to later become a graphic designer for a digital marketing company by 2015. Since then until now he decided to take a break from pursuing the dream of being an artiste.

Still Hungry

However, the years working on this other innovative side of himself caused Edwards to long to return to music. His inspiration boomed and exploded as he saw the rise of social media, the evolution of the local dancehall scene, and other artistes tapping into their own potential.

Edwards’ new fresh look at the scene motivated him to change his brand and call himself, “Don Kahni.” Another one of his recent musical productions called “Get A Chop,” explores his drive to earn and rise to his financial dreams.

“I like to sing about current trending topics as well as anything that comes to my mind,” stated Don Kahni. “I would love to collaborate with skillful artistes such as Vybz Kartel, Skillibeng, and Masicka. These guys have a certain flair and lyrical genius which I like,” he continued.
